It’s been an interesting couple of weeks. Currently in the process of selling my trusty 1980 Datsun 1200 (Habanero be his name)… I’ll miss the convenience of having that car for picking up parts and project bikes, but the time has come to pass it on.
My requirement has changed a fair bit in the past 6 months, and as a result, I do not need a pickup/car per se, and am now focusing myself on selling my car and picking up a cheap, small displacement “runabout” motorcycle for the summer. The daily (more like tri-daily) hunt through online classifieds for something suitable has become the norm. My criteria is fairly broad, but I don’t want to be spending more than $1,500 and ideally one that is registered or would require minimal work to do so. The perfect bike would be something pre-90’s, road registrable/registered and mechanically “all there”.
I’ve got a growing short-list of models that seem to be surfacing on a regular basis, but most of the time, the work required to get them on road makes them an unwise purchase. Sometimes, just sometimes, a truly suitable example crops up, and before I can get a hold of the seller, it’s gone. Today, I found a beautiful early 70’s Yamaha RX125 (2-stroker) that has 7 months registration remaining… I bid feverishly, but was outbid by the smallest margin in the dying seconds of the eBay auction… Such a shame!
The hunt continues…
